MediChain: Privatizing Medical Data through Blockchain Technology

A major problem researchers are faced with is lack of access to prompt and accurate medical information and data. This does not only retard the effectiveness of decision makers, developers of treatment and doctors, but has been proven to be one of the largest causes of deaths of patients due to inefficient medical care arising from lack of prompt access to previous medical records. Estimates reveal that lack of access to medical information is the third largest cause of deaths in United States. This is quite heart breaking and totally unnecessary!
Even the available recorded data are stored in a vast number of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), paper notes, prescription records, numerous smart devices, specialist’s databases, and so on. In addition, most of these data are stored in various languages employed in different locations for representing and sharing data. Consequently, the data are difficult to access or even completely inaccessible when they are highly needed.
Leveraging the Blockchain technology and Big Data, MediChain https://medichain.online/is out to save lives by providing a platform where patients can store their data and give specialists access to these data at their own will.

MediChain is a medical Big Data platform that allows patients to store their own data off-chain in an appropriate geographical domain, and thereby give doctors and specialists access to the data anywhere and anytime irrespective of the payer network or Electronic Medical Record employed. On the MediChain platform, patients, doctors and hospitals will be able to put data into a compliant cloud which would become part of the MediChain ecosystem. The Blockchain would store pointers and rules on the usage and anonymity, and the data itself would be stored off-chain in a compliant cloud. Patients could access their data at any time and monetize it at their own will and anonymously giving researchers, pharmaceutical companies and insurers prompt access to voluntary and unhampered data.
MediChain has a unique design which would allow quick access and small downloads which would enable practical application for day-to-day medical use. Patients, researchers and service providers all over the world can connect irrespective of the system they use, provided the systems are compatible with the almost universal and open json format.
Ultimately, MediChain seeks to reduce the patients’ risk, increase their benefits as well as cause a drastic transformation in the medical service sector.
